The moment you’ve been waiting for!

Posted on 09/15/2014 by Moe Posted in Events, Moe's Dos! .

It’s that time of year again, when the nights get cool and the days aren’t as muggy, when the leaves start to take on a different hue and school buses are found wandering the streets twice a day. And as we all know, this time of year means something very special to many of us – fall allergies! Well, fall allergies and of course, Pumpkin Donuts!

We here at Moe’s have been working tirelessly on our secret recipe and will be rolling out our Pumpkin Donuts this week at the Forest Park Farmer’s Market!  The indescribably unique flavor of fall, accented with hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. While you’re there, get a hot cup of coffee to keep your donut company, because nobody likes a lonely donut.

Speaking of hard work and dedication…

Posted on 09/07/2014 by Moe Posted in Uncategorized .

Sunday morning found us out at Robinson State Park in Agawam to honor two very special young men, Paul Hotaling and Christopher Rumplik, both of whom were awarded the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America, an achievement realized by only 5% of all Scouts. Fans of Moe’s may recall Paul as one of our valuable assistants who helped get our trailer up and running. What you may not know about Paul is that he designed, developed and constructed the informational kiosk at the entrance of Robinson State Park and also led a team of volunteers who assembled, painted and distributed 36 picnic benches for the park as well.

For a weekend that had the threat of storms looming, it turned out to be pretty darn good. We started out Saturday morning with our new friends at the Agawam Dog Owner’s Group (ADOG) at their 2nd annual Field Day. We got all set up and with the rumble of thunder in the background, got cooking. adog01 Continue reading →

#tbt – An American Donut Heroine

Posted on 08/28/2014 by Moe Posted in tbt .

From the United States National Archives:

clubmobile

Image: Liz Richardson (left) and Mary Haynsworth with smiling GIs in front of their Clubmobile in Normandy. Liz sent the snapshot to her parents on June 4, 1945, noting that the “blur” in her left hand “is a doughnut. And it’s just as well that it wasn’t photogenic.” (Courtesy of James H. Madison)

National Doughnut Day started in 1938 when it was created by the Salvation Army to honor the women who served doughnuts to the soldiers during World War I. Doughnuts were back on the front lines in World War II.

Elizabeth A. Richardson, the woman on the left in this photograph, is standing in front of her Clubmobile, a single-decker bus fitted with coffee and doughnut-making equipment that drove around the England, bringing cheer to the soldiers stationed there. “I consider myself fortunate to be in Clubmobile—can’t conceive of anything else,” she wrote to her parents in World War II.

But like many of the young men she served doughnuts to, Elizabeth did not return home. She was killed in plane crash in July 25, 1945, and is buried in the American Cemetery in Normandy. You can read more about her story in this Prologue magazine article: http://go.usa.gov/d4k
